New officers elected at Southern Mutual Insurance Company
Athens, G.A. – December 30, 2015 – Dan DeLamater was elected President of Southern Mutual Insurance Company effective January 1, 2016 at the most recent Board of Directors meeting. The Board of Directors also elected Kim McClain as Vice President and Secretary, Mitch Parham as Assistant Vice President, and Mike Sorrells as Treasurer.
Mr. DeLamater becomes the 10th President of the 168 year old insurance company which is headquartered in Athens, Georgia. Mr. DeLamater joined the company in 2000 and was promoted to Vice President in 2002. He holds a Risk Management and Insurance Degree from Georgia State University. He has served on numerous insurance industry and community Boards.
Mr. DeLamater succeeds Allen Green, who is retiring after 29 years as President. Mr. Green will continue to serve on Southern Mutual Insurance Company’s Board of Directors.
Ms. McClain joined the Southern Mutual in 1980 and quickly rose to Assistant Vice President. She attended Valencia College in Orlando, FL studying piano and later received a paralegal certificate while working for Congressman Richard Shelby in Tuscaloosa, AL. She worked with Fortson, Bentley and Griffin as a paralegal prior to joining Southern Mutual in 1980.
Mr. Parham joined the company as Claims Manager in 2012 after more than 27 years of claims experience with a number of different insurance carriers. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia Southern University and earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation. He currently serves on the Athens Country Club Board of Directors.
Mr. Sorrells has been an accountant with Southern Mutual for over 15 years. Prior to his employment with Southern Mutual he served as a staff accountant with St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Breneau University.
